Comment:The Association of University Centers on Disabilities is a 501(c) non-profit organization that promotes and supports the national network of university centers on disabilities, which includes University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research, and Service (UCEDD), Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) Programs and Developmental Disabilities Research Centers (DDRC). The website includes a directory of state contacts for these three Centers and links to related resources.

Comment:The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities, students with disabilities, and/or the gifted. CEC advocates for appropriate governmental policies, sets professional standards, provides continual professional development, advocates for newly and historically underserved individuals with exceptionalities, and helps professionals obtain conditions and resources necessary for effective professional practice. This website provides a lot of information about exceptional children and the issues they face.

Comment:The DECA Program is a strength-based assessment and planning system for young children. The 5-step system was designed to support early childhood teachers, mental health professionals, and parents in their goal of helping children develop healthy social/emotional skills and reduce challenging behaviors. Comment:Family Voices is a coalition of families of CSHCN and their caregivers, professionals, and friends whose lives have been touched by these children and their families. This site is a service supported by a cooperative agreement between MCHB, RWJ foundation, the David and Lucille Packard Foundation and The National Policy Center for Children with Special Health Care Needs. It provides information about issues affecting CSHCN and their families, weekly news updates, project reports and other resources.

Comment:This site has an excellent resource entitled "Caring for Children with Chronic Conditions" which would be very helpful in training child care staff and parents. Included are modules on understanding chronic illnesses and the essential principles of caring for children who have such illnesses. Each module also contains activities for use in presentation of the material.

Comment:A national children's braille literary program, ReadBooks! aims to encourage families with blind children to read print/braille books together to foster a love of books and reading at an early age, expose parents of blind preschool children to braille as an effective method of reading and writing, and introduce visually impaired children to a means of reading independantly. ReadBooks! offers a free book bag, filled with braille books and activities, to blind children, ages birth to 7.
